The Company Sportboat Fishing Charters was born in the ‘70’s when life was good and fishing was easy. At the time, there were many charters in the port of St. Joseph capitalizing on the surplus of fish. Since then many outfits have failed but Sportboat Fishing Charters survived. In fact, it thrived and continues to thrive as a well rounded company serving not only traditional fishermen, but corporations and families as well. Our Boat, Sportboat was constructed in 1979 by Marinette Yachts, Marinette knew just how rough the open water can be, and thus opted for a super tough aluminum hull rather than wood or fiberglass.

Therefore, you can rest assured that no matter what Lake Michigan dishes out, Sportboat can handle it with ease. Sportboat makes for a comfortable, safe trip on the water, allowing you to focus on fishing. Speaking of fishing, many believe that Sportboat has caught more fish sport trolling than any other boat on Lake Michigan, possibly, even, on any of the Great Lakes due to the fact that rather than being a family toy, she has been a working fishing vessel since her first days on the water. Sportboat boasts a 32 ft length, 12 ft beam, twin 350 engines, modern electronics, large comfortable passenger areas inside a spacious cabin, full size walk in head (bathroom), full DNR and USCG safety inspections, and of course a multitude of top quality fishing tackle and gear.
The Captains- Capt. Chuck Knipschild created and nurtured Sportboat Fishing Charters for many years before confidently turning the reigns over to Capt. Levi Sanders. Capt. Levi is an experienced fisherman with over 35 years of fishing on the Great Lakes and inland waters for salmon, trout, walleye, jumbo perch, and virtually anything else that swims in Michigan waters. He is also a family man with two daughters and five grandchildren. So, you KNOW that your young ones are always welcome on Sportboat! We have taught many youngsters how to land some really big fish
